what dump valve flutters?
#1
Dad is after a dump valve, but he would rather one that flutters.
I know its normally the wastegate you can hear flutter, but im sure there is a dump valve that flutters.
I got one off my old GTI-R that flutters when an adjusting screw is moved, but we dont know what DV it is or what fitting kit.
Can anyone recommed a DV that flutters, i did say to him a HKS SSQ, but as i said, he wants a flutter.
Thanks very much

It's air being rammed back through the compressor wheel.
Depending on the turbo bearings, it'll destroy it, prematurely wear it or not affect it at all
You can get some dump-valves to make the noise by adjusting the screw simply because the screw adjusts the pressure differential at which the thing dumps, so if you move it to, say, 1.2 bar & the turbo tops out at 1.1bar, it doesn't dump at all & you get the flutter...

Well, the dumpvalve isn't adjusted correctly (for normal use) if you're getting fluttering! Or it's broken if it's the standard one.
The standard setup is for boost to be dumped, basically, whenever there is any boost. If you know your turbo/bearings, it can be possible to adjust the valve so it doesn't boost until high levels, but for your typical setup this wouldn't be a good idea...
The HKS shouldn't 'flutter', it should make a very loud 'peeep'! Very good BOV that one...

Therefore if I hear fluttering does that mean that my dumpvalve does not dump quick enough ?
It only flutters when backing off gently so do I need to change a setting on my dumpvalve ?
If so how is this done ?
Thanks,
Ian
