You are having boost problems, does it feel like you are taking your foot on and off the accelerator ? If so you need to clean your boost solenoid, its on the drivers side underneath the black plastic panel above your airbox.
Connect your Green connectors under your dashboard (Drivers side)with your ignition switched on,this will cycle the solenoid allowing you to spray brake cleaner into where the 2 small hoses connect, i would clean the pipes that go into the solenoid while your at it.
Once you have cleaned it unplug your connectors and then take the car for a blast and see how its going.

I'd also check the engine oil level, as if too high, this is why its got oil into the boost valve. try to make sure the level is halfway up the stick and no higher, otherwise the fault you have will re occur.
It is always better to cure the problem as well as the fault.

Question

This happens on my UK99 as well. Do I need to do the same?

Where is the boost solenoid on the uk99s?

Same place as on the MY01,on your drivers side bolted to the strut housing, right behind the airbox.

I have had a similar problem develop on the way home from work tonight, it seems to hold back when under hard acceleration but the check engine light came on when it started doing it.( and has stayed on) Its a 94 WRX, no mods at all except a SS backbox. Could this be the same problem
