any ideas how to make my car go a little bit better?
Its a my98 terzo, full decat, link ecu, knocklink.
I dont know what the power is at the moment, just wondering what else I could do to the the car without spending loads of money,
oh and one last thing, I have no technical or mechanical knowledge at all!
Cheers all, Taffy.

How much boost are you running?
A list of things to consider which are not too expensive and will give benefits without running more boost:
Silicon turbo hoses
Ported headers and uppipe
Inlet pipe
Turbo VF23/4/8 or TD05 if you can find one (also need fuel pump)
If you use an MBC instead of the Link for boost control you may get better spool-up and more stable boost.
MY99/00 TMIC will give cooler chargeflow.

Andrew, thanks for the reply,
I dont know what boost the car is running, how would I find out?
I do have a couple of defi gauges, boost & oil temp,
is it just a matter of looking on the boost gauge when I put my foot down? (I did say my knowledge was limited )
I think the price of a new turbo would be too much for me at the momment,
What sort of increase could I expect from a second had sti intercooler?
Or any other suggestions appreciated!
Cheers Mike.

Do you not have a hand controller or PCLink for your ECU?
Second hand turbo's can be had for very reasonably prices if you look around (but not TD05s any more).
Not much difference between STi and UK intercoolers of the same MY, biggest difference with (std) STis is the pipework between the turbo compressor and the i/c, but a set of Samcos will sort that out. The MY99/00 IC is more restrictive than the MY97/98 unit but is a much better heatsink and will give you lower chargeflow temps at higher boost figures (not as good as an aftermarket TMIC or FMIC but better than what you have now).

i have been told by an expert that sti tmic arent worth bothering with unless your looking for really bhp the standard tmic is good for 300bhp
i thought getting the ports polished was quite pricey

That's a bit of an open question, it depends on what turbo you fit.
You'll be lucky to reach 290bhp with the std TD04 and lots of other modifications.
With a VF23/4/8 or TD05 you could make an easy 300-320 and upwards of 350 with the right supporting mods.
I swapped my turbo and uppipe in about 4 hours, a Subaru specialist who knows what they are doing should be able to do it in about 2-3.
