ABS Warning Light
#1
Hi all,
I recently broke the tip off one of my ABS Sensors. This caused the ABS warning light on the dashboard to illuminate. I have since replaced the sensor, but the light is still on.
Does the ECU record the error ? Does the ECU need the error clearing from its memory ? Or do I have a faulty replacement sensor.
If I use the Select box, can I just clear that one error code (I dont want to do a complete reset).
Many thanks
J.

Dont answer me then... :-(
Are the front ABS sensors the same as the rears? I know the wire exits at a different angle, but do they both work in the same manor? with the same output ?
Cheers,
J.

I'm not sure anyone knows 100% how error codes are kept, but I assumed that the ECU stored any fault codes until such time they were cleared by the select monitor (ie ECU reset). I have heard a story of a garage not being able to read fault codes, as the battery had been disconnected for too long.....
Sorry can't be of more help.

ABS faults
The ECU does keep a log of ABS faults - there's a self-diagnostic system where u earth one of the pins of a plug under the dash - the ABS light flashes a code, u earth and un-earth it 3 times in 12 seconds and it clears the memory - done it on my GC8 a few times. Need any help get in touch.
Edit: The ECU does reset to standard and has to 're-learn' the engine after being powerless for a while. Takes a few miles driving etc before the idling and stuff settles down again. I assume that'd be why they couldnt read fault codes after a period of being battery-less.
