HKS Intercooler
#2
Hi,
I am currently looking at purchasing a front mounted intercooler, in my desire for 400+ BHP :-)
HKS has now formed HKS Europe, and have several UK distributors, so I am assuming TDI is no longer their main/sole distributor in the UK ?
One problem with the kit is the length of piping required to plumb it in. This will be the same with most front 'cooler kits, unless they supply a new manifold. The more piping you have between the turbo and the engine means the more lag (greater volume to compress).
I'm not sure if the piping they supply is aluminium, it seems to be painted ?
Fitting is quite a bugger too....you have to remove the bumber, which took me ages to figure out, then its a very tight squeeze installing the piping. If you have any other mods to your engine bay, you might need to check to see if it will fit.
There are other manufacturers, although HKS kit is top notch.
For more info on cooling the air intake, see Penni's post ..I wrote a bloody massive thing there...
Byeeeee

Although we do manufacture front mounted intercoolers , it has been shown many times over that a front mounted intercooler does increase lag due to the amount of piping required. Please take into account, that although Prodrive utilise a front mounted intercoooler they REVERSE the inlet manifold.
This reduces the pipe length thus reducing the lag. They (Prodrive) utilise MASSIVE Inkon cores.
If you want front mounted because they look good , please take into account the drawbacks.
