Hello everybody,
What are the differences between the "standard" MY's and the STI5's engines.
I know, that the STI has a bigger turbo. STI5 drivers: Isn't there more lag than on a
normal MY? If there is, the normal MY should be faster on twisting roads (->
acceleration a lot from low revs).
How is the comparison concerning boost? (I think STI5 has more boost).

My STI 5 does 1.1 bar on 5th until I went to reset the ECU . Now I do 0.95 bar on 5th. As for lag, boost only comes on abt 3500 rpm, lots of lag on 1st & 2nd. Unfortunately, I have not driven a MY99 hard so far and therefore cannot give a fair comparision.

I am also curious to know if the STI intercooler is any different from My99. Let's hear from other STI owners.

Cool

Hi there,

I believe there are several differences:

Pistons (forged)
Valves (sodium)
Lifters (solid)
turbo (I think its roller bearing)
Intercooler - higher flowing.
I believe the cams are different too
Plus other gubbins...

I havent really looked at the V yet...

Cheers,

J.
