Moray,

Know where I can get the standard stuff from?

Is it the linkage or is it the the shaft length itself?

By the way, I didn't go for anything new, I stuck with my existing 1996 WRX and elected to put the money into a flat.

I have decided when I get a six figure salary to buy a 22B and use it as a second car, but that is at least five years away.

In the meantime, with residuals falling, I am happy to hang on for all the difference it might make.

I intend to extract what I can from the car I have and enjoy it, works out much cheaper that way.

Thanks for your continued advice and help, but I would still apreciate any further tips on locating linkages. (would the sti gearbox cost me a fortune? and if so, which one? wouldn't mind taller gearing in fifth (20mph/1000rpm means max of 140?))

I have a non sti wrx and hence no short throw gear change.

What I want is the feeling of the sti change.

I dont want to fit a quick shift as I would rather have original equipment but my concern is the feel of the gate.

I cant imagine that the quickshift would feel any different to holding the gearstick further down but on trying this there seems to be some slack in the gate.

Sibnce the car has only 18000 miles, I dont really understand this at all.

If I want the tightness of the sti, are there other bits I could change such as the linkage that would give me this?

If so, does anyone know where I can get these things?

You could fit a genuine STI gearbox and linkage, that would give you the STI shift and the STI gearbox strength, finish this of by unsing Silkolene Pro SRG gearbox oil.

Or you could just fit the genuine STI, or third party, quickshift linkage. If you have a pre 97 style car, then fitting a quickshift does make a significant improvement over standard. I know, I've been there.

PS At last I have a better idea of what you went for instead of the sti 3!
