5th Gear Acceleration Judder
#1
In France over the weekend I found a new "feature" of my MY99. If accelerating (quite hard) in 5th Gear from around 70mph to about 90mph (ish) I could feel a slight judder from the car.
It was a bit like the judder you get with wheel spin when pulling away from a standstill.
Any clues?

I had this (or something similar) last year in France in my MY98, using SUL petrol.
Sounds like it might be the "Overboost" problem - search the BBS, there was loads of discussion at the time, IIRC...

I noticed the same last night. No problems nailing it in 4th gear, but in 5th at that speed (around 3000rpm)is lightly stutters. My MY99 is modded with a chip, Ramair filter and a full SS exhaust sytsem (dp/ms/bb). I allways use 98RON. Will have a boost meter installed shortly to have a permanent view on boost.
I never noticed this untill last night. I had to get petrol from a different brand (Texaco) instead of Shell that I normally use.

The overboost problem is not a slight judder. The engine shuts down for a split second you are thrown forward your heart skips a beat. It has been described as hitting a brick wall and never a slight judder.
Moray/ Nice one.

From the descriptions here, definitely not an "over-boost" problem.
I get the feeling that it could be down to fuel.
This is the common denominator between me and Nico van Steen - the last place I filled up was in the Netherlands the day before (funny though Nico, could have sworn it was a Shell station!?).
Thanks for help guys

Mmm - I'd definitely describe the judder as more of a vibration through the transmission than a surge from the engine.
As I said, I feels similar to the judder you get if you pull away from standstill too aggressively and get wheelspin.
I'm not too worried - more intrigued. Only noticed it when abroad - never noticed it before or since in the UK.
