Question

Hi!

I want to buy an exhaust manifold with equal-lenght tubes for my Scooby MY98, and I want to know you experiences! What about a Power engineering, or a TDI-PLC (http://www.tdi-plc.com). A TDI-exhaust manifold exist in two possibilities: a robot welded stainless-steel (Japan-made)and a hand-welded in-house manufactured one. The one from MRT hasn't equal lenght tubes and is excluded!
Which one to buy??

Greetings fom a foolish Belgian Scooby-owner!

Jo

It seems to be that such an exhaust manifold is standard on an Impreza Electra One and a Legacy Blitzen. STI won't liberate them for sale as a spare part?!

Cool

I think Scoobysport do their own one made by Hayward and Scott. Might be worth enquiring about. I assume you know you will loose the lovely boxer exhaust note if you go equal length?!

Just been at ScoobySport today to get back box and mid cat replaced.
While I was there a 22B with full system, down pipe and equal length manifold turned up. One blip and I was sold, it sounded wonderful. Should be fitting it in the next month.

My best advise would be to ask the price and if you can't afford it don't listen to one!!!

Could the owner of the car-with-the-equal-lenght-manifold react, please? How does it drives, how does it sounds...

Talking

Price at Scoobysport for the Hayward and Scott exhaust manifold with tubes of equal lenght: 900£ + 17.5% VAT

Pete told me that you will have an increase of power (with the scoobysportexhaust) of about 15%!

When we fitted one of the development manifolds on my RA, I just couldn't believe it. No difference off boost, but absolutely staggering performance from 4000 upwards.

Bob Rawle then mapped it with a Link. We didn't know it at the time, but the fuel was contaminated. With fresh fuel, it is the fastest Impreza I've ever driven.

That is until I drive a certain Welsh customer's 22B. This has the same set up (manifold and our full exhaust) and his engine was mapped on a dyno. 343bhp and 371 lb/ft. That's only 20lb/ft short of a WRC Impreza and about 20bhp more. It humble's his Scottish workmate's Ferrari 355 F1 to 100mph and above this, there's nothing in it

To get the best out of an equal length manifold, it will need to be re-mapped.

Marty Becton had a drive of my RA when we went testing at Drive it All. Marty did the BRC last year in a Gp N Impreza and is an instructor at DiA. Expletives are even more funny with an Australian accent.

I couldn't understand why my guests didn't want to drive the car. Later one explained that Disney have no ride like it

The sound is a personal thing. I love it. It sounds the same as an Impreza WRC, a bit like an old Escort RS2000 with a big valve head. It also spits a lot of flame.

I will be bringing this car to track days, later in the year.

Pete,

What BHP gain can we expect for a UK spec turbo MY00 with this exhaust manifold ?

I think you will only ever see the full benefit when these are fitted in conjunction with a re-map. They provide increased potential, rather than a bolt on improvement.

If you speak to Bob Rawle, he will be able to discuss the inticate differences between mapping with the standard and equal length manifolds. It seems easier to produce really big torque figures when mapping with equal length headers.

Mike

I won't be putting it on my UK car, as I don't want to map this car.

Dave Power was saying that they gave 25bhp.

Why don't you put it on your car? What is the danger of placing an exhaust manifold with tubes of equal lenght on a "standard" Impreza turbo, without remapping the ECU?

I don't want to remap the ECU of my car, I only want to optimise the exhaust system with this part (I 've already the scoobysport exhaust..)
