I know very little about engines and as such would like to know the answer to the following:

What is the vibration type noise made when pressing the accelerator when in too high a gear? For example, having slowed down and forgotten to change down, so I'm still in fourth or fifth, if you press the accelerator too much, the car shudders and vibration noises can be heard.

A) Is this normal (I know I shouldn't do it)

B) What is the noise

I would be grateful for any responses.

Regards,

James (MY99)

Wink

This is quite normal. You are just overloading the engine due to being in the wrong gear. It would happen on any manual car.
Try wiggleing the stick in the centre console when you're slowing down and see what happens.

Cool

...I tried, and the rear wheels locked up and the car went sideways and the engine stalled and the world caved in... last time I wiggle the handbrake whilst driving...
