Clutch Judder
#1
Hi,
Would anyone know if this is anything other than the need for a new clutch ?
Car has covered 37,000 miles, 95 WRX.
Basically the symptoms are, after travelling for a far distance, example 10 --> 20 miles in just 5th or 4th gear, when changing back down into 4th or through the gears.
The change has a lot of judder, only initially, gear changes after this are normal again.
No loss of oils either
Any ideas ??
Cheers
Kev

I also suffer(ed) from clutch judder, not similar symptoms though. Mine shuddered when starting in first and the shifting to second, but not after that.
Somebody gave me the tip to hold the handbrake and try to start, which indeed works, but you'll have to do it about once a month, and be prepared for the smell of burnt clutch.
If you search you can find the old thread.
If I remember correctly the problem was basically that the clutch needed de-glazing?

I suffer from clutch judder on my MY94, but I have an AP Racing Semi-paddle fitted which juddered like hell unless you give it some revs before attempting to set off.
But you can drop the clutch at 5500 without any slip....Its used for Hillclimbing !

How often...5 times every Hillclimb event.
I don't know exactly what a semi paddle clutch is, but it copes with "agressive" starts better than the original one. However its somewhat akin to an off / on switch.

Howdy..
I think in relation to a semi-paddle... you mean a sprung paddle clutch.
AP offer two types of paddle/puck clutchs for road cars..
The sprung one helps to reduce the initial shock of it biting... same spring techniques as a stock round/button clutch.
The unsprung one is a killer.. and I would not suggest that in a road car. They tend to be on or off and introduce massive shocks into the transmissions when they bite.
