Motec ECU's

Motec is not cheap , but it has lots of nice toys like anti-lag , launch control and compensation for 95 and 97 fuel . The biggest plus is that it now goes one hell of a lot faster and uses less fuel .

Huxley,
"not cheap" is a UK list price of UKP 1580+VAT, but they can be found for about UKP 1100 if you look around. You will also need a PC cable for it (if your tuner doesn't have one and/or you plan to tweak it yourself), plus the loom adapter so you don't have to butcher your OE wiring loom. Even then, there have been cases of needing to mod the loom...
ALS, or "overrun boost enhancement" as they affectionately call it is switchable, of course, since it will kill the turbo if used for extended periods of time!
The part number you probably want is the 3DFISA which has all the bells and whistles bar wide band lambda control. That gets you the ECU; depending on your car you may have to fit an Intake Air Temp sensor and it would be good to have a Charge Temp sensor too :-) You will lose the knock sensor (only the M8 can have a knock input) so that part of the loom can be reused :-)
The only things I found about it which put me off buying one is the lack of closed loop idle control (not a huge problem, but I'm fussy!) and the wasted spark ignition strategy which prevents the ALS system from running highly retarded ignition (eg 40 degrees ATDC will be part way through the intake stroke of one cylinder and part way through the power stroke of its partner... lighting up at this point is not good; it's like running 140 degrees advance and will cause an explosion in the intake manifold!)
Hope this helps,
Pat.

1100 ? Wow. Do you mean new here ? If so, any clues where I can look "around" for one ?
Regards
Aaron

Jase,
You serious ?
If so, then I'm sure that there isn't any Mac software to map the MoTeC ECUs with. All the actually MoTeC mapping software is DOS based.
As for the Link, I think (at this time) you can only map it through the hand-controller widget.
Cheers
Ian

Aaron,
the UK list price is UKP 1580, but you can get it for less by looking around.... and yes, the price I quoted is brand new. As for where to look, I don't want to upset MoTeC Europe or my source so I won't reveal the info on the BBS... but I do believe that a certain mutual acquantance is mailing you the details.... :-)
Moray,
you can get an ignition expander, but I was under the impression that it allowed you to run up to 8 coils from the single output, not to run them sequentially... that would require another output and then you'de be back to no closed loop idle control. Of course I could be wrong! :-)
Jase,
EMP (the MoTeC mapping software) is designed to run under MS DOG, so you'de need a DOG emulator. I believe there used to be a coprocessor option for the Macs (just like I have a RISC and a 486 CPU in my RiscPC). Link uses the hand controller to program... at the mo...
You should be able to datalog from the Link with a Mac. The MoTeC interpreter software is Windoze based, so again you're tied to MS products.
Cheers,
Pat.
