Question

Hi all

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to pass an MOT with one CAT in place on the downpipe?
I ask this because I plan to fit a Magnex centre CAT replacement pipe to a UK '99.

Thanks

Sonu

I have it on good authority that it will, however if you replace the down pipe, it wont.

Also,

run the car hot before the test and fuel up with normal unleaded....!

And give the tester 20squid for a few beers

Cool

Evning guys!

We had a small meet (oop north ) here today at a Swedish MOT centre, where our president had managed to get free access to the emissions testing equipment.

Various combinations of exhaust systems were tested, and I was VERY surprised to see that my car passed with honours.
It was well below allowed limits.

This with one cat...I've got the SS downpipe and backbox along with the stock midpipe (cat/resonator thingy).

It seems to be important that the exhaust (and cat) is warm though, not neccesarily hot, but testing showed that a cold one is no better than a completely decatted system.

Kewl innit?

I should mention that this middle cat is new, I don't know how it'll perform in 3 years time.

Any Impreza will walk through a MOT or roadside test with only the downpipe cat in place ! When i had the centre section put on, i did before and after tests on an MOT machine, just to see what difference it made, answer, none at all !

The only reason there are 2 cats on the UK spec cars is to pass a startup emissions test, which is required to pass whole vehicle approval, one of the reasons the P1 had to have a different larger cat put in the downpipe, as it has only one cat as standard !

Not going to comment on the Centre cat thing with a catless DP, its all been said in the above post

My car passed with just the downpipe cat in place with no worries (Magnex centre section, SS backbox)! In addition, PP'ed cars have a standard downpipe cat and no centre cat.

But does the P1 downpipe cat have the same part number as the STiV/STiVI? I.e. does it have a bigger cat than those?

Which would all make perfect sense if the P1 actually had a different cat.

Same part number as standard downpipe.
