It's worth it....if you don't mind the increased induction noise! Much quicker throttle response.

I tried with and without the 90 degree bend - I preferred the response without it.

There's a lot of talk about removing the resonator box on the induction system to improve breathing. I have a MY97 with an ITG filter and Magnex rear box, do you think it would help things.

If so do I duct the air into the front wing area (say with a 90 bend)or just remove the resnator and leave it at that.

Thanks

Iain

PS. Sorry to start another thread!!

Hi
APS in Australia offers a smooth bore cast aluminium cold air system.
A K&N-Filter breathes cool air from the inner guard and it fixes the air-filter box.

I run a similar setup on my car (MY00 UK turbo). I have a K+N panel filter and Magnex backbox. I removed the resonator box sometime ago - it was quite easy apart from one bugger of a nut and bolt at the bottom of the resonator box. Have a go, do a search on the subject and you'll find loads of instructions on how to remove it.

I don't think there is big improvement in power, but it does make it a little smoother and things do seem to spin up a little quicker - you can also hear the dump valve, but it's not too intrusive.

As regards air flow, opinions seem to be split on this. Once you are on the move, the general air flow through the engine bay means that the temparature would be roughly the same as air drawn in from the wing. The only real benefit to drawing air in from the wing is when you are stationary or sitting in slow moving traffic. What I did was run a piece of flexable aluminium piping inside the wing (attached to the bracket that secures the wing)and position it to take air from the bottom of the front spoiler and direct it onto the air filter (using the same theory as the K+N 57i induction kits). You could also block off the hole in the wing into the engine bay.

The best advice I can give is have a play around and see what suits you best.

Cheers

Chris

Thanx everyone, removed the resonator last night - seems to be smoother and more responsive, just messing around with air ducting now. At the moment I have used a 90 bend that goes straight into the air box (82mm diameter) and ducts towards the front, finishing just after the bracket - with the annoying little bolt!?!.

If anyone can advice me if i've done right I would appreciate it..........

Thanx
Iain

Thumbs up

Iain

That does sound very similar to what I have tried. Next thing to do would be to go all the way and fit a Blitz / HKS type cone filter - but I think it maybe a little noisy
