Falkland v Scoobysport Downpipe
#1
Has anyone any experience of comparing these two ? Pretty much the same ?
I live near the Falkland Centre so would be much easier for me..only if it's as good though.
Any advice appreciated.
cheers

Look, how many times
1) Downpipes dont show ANY increases on a dyno!
2)Bashs car was done on 98 Ron - mine was done on 97 Ron on different days etc, and unless you can replicate exactly the same Dyno conditions from one run to the next - you CANT compare the plots.

Sunil, point taken. But I think the difference between the two plots I've quoted (Bash Nazir and Jason Jarvis) is too big to ignore. Also, the Falkland pipe shows the engine pulling top end power for another 400rpm or so.
Both cars were on 98 RON, Jasons's car tested in May 99, Bash's in November. No details of temperature or barometric pressure though, which could explain the difference.
I want a new downpipe mainly to reduce turbo lag, but logic would suggest that a freer flowing cat-less exhaust would show some performance gain, especially at the top end. Why is that assumption wrong?
However, the original question was is the Falkland pipe good? Do you have a view?

I can only comment on the SS one mate, and its fantastic. At the end of the day they all do pretty much the same thing so you should be ok with either one.
Many times it has been wondered why the DP doesnt show a dyno gain, no one has ever known why. Bash may also have a really good engine explaining his relative advantage. Whats the power at the wheels?

Sunil, it's an SS pipe for me then. Sorry I can't answer your question; I'm only going by the power traces posted on the link above.
I've spent quite a lot of time comparing figures on that link (those long winter evenings just flew by!). I'm tending to agree with you though that unless the changes are dramatically different it's very hard to draw conclusions unless cars are tested back to back on the same day. Cheers.

Rico,
I've got a Falkland downpipe and would have nothing but good things to say about it.
It transformed my car!
Turbo spools quicker, holds boost to the redline, etc...
DO IT!
Mark
PS The guys at Falkland have always looked after me.

It's cheaper for SIDC members - 170+vat versus 190+vat for non-SIDC members. I think it costs 20 quid for membership so it pays for itself immediately. If you want it fitted roughly 2 hours labour =75 pounds..ish
Mark..cheers mate I think I'll go ahead. Have you had much other work done by them ?
Did you get the magnex centre done at the same time..the guy there recommended it..noise consequences ??

I went through same process. As far as makes any difference, the two are indentical.
I went Falkland as it was cheaper, delivery was within 24 hours, (SS were quoting 4 weeks plus) and have always had exceptional service from Falkland. But each to his own - if you live 'close' to either, it's a no-brainer.
Worth getting it lagged before fitting though - minimal cost, and so much less hassle than after fitting!

Scorpion d/p as fitted to my car...£150 FITTED from Tyres Northampton. 01604 588599.
OK, so it's a simple design with no wider opening or twin-dump system, but you can't argue with CK1's performance on the rollers, especially after the PPP was fitted!
Pay more at your peril.
Stef.

Rico,
I've had my WRX for just over a year and have always had it serviced at Falkland. I live in Cumbernauld and it's worth the trek to Glenrothes!!
I had the centre done at the same time and the backbox a few days previous to that. The noise from the whole system isn't that much louder than the magnex backbox on it's own, just sounds a little deeper.
If you're over this way at any time drop me a line and you can listen for yourself...

thanks for the offer. I may well take you up on it if I'm still unsure about noise.I'm thinking I'll just go for it though !
Gary
I assume the lagging is mainly for protection from heat generated...it might dull noise a bit too ? The guy at Falkland mentioned it takes so long to get the OEM D/P off the first time because of removal of heat shields etc - does lagging replace these ?
cheers

Yes that was main reason for lagging, but the hotter the gas, the faster it flows, the faster it flows, the greater the benefit - the least the resistence the better. Don't know about noise levels, never had downpipe without lagging?? But at Knockhill, I was told my car was about the loudest there
£170 fitted - and no blanking plate

how come you paid 170 (fitted) I've been quoted 170 + vat + fitting(70quid) =250 quid ?????

It's not what you ask but how and the £170 was plus VAT IIRC
