Question

Guys,

I am planning to remove my Resonator and have read all the threads I can find on the subject. Several people have mentioned that you should fit splash guards on if you do this to stop water ingestion. Has anyone either

a) done this and can tell me where and how
b) decided that this is not required

Also, if a cold air duct is taken from the duct in the bumper, how do you stop water from being ingested then?

Any help, most appreciated as I want to make my mind up about how I want to do it before I pull the thing out!!!

Cheers,

Matt.

Matt I removed my resonator about 5 months ago. I have not added any additional water protection to it and have had no problems at all. I don't thonk its wise to direct a hose straight to the intake from the front bumper hole as all the spray, rain, and sh*t will be directed up there. Whereas if you just leave the intake to take air from inside the wing, any water etc has more space to go into and not be directed to the intake.

Cool

I took my resonator off about 6 months ago and haven't had any problems with water ingestion and that includes driving very quickly through N.Wales (is there any other way? ) during last years floods.
Something that's always puzzled me is that Westfields etc often have the air filters sticking out of the bonnet facing upwards!!
If it's not a problem for them I dont think we need to worry.

Thumbs up

Matt
I took mine off last summer and have had no problems...except for a Subaru mechanic asking why it was removed...and then the service manager explaining the warranty would be in question if the engine went pop from taking water..blah..blah
I just said its my problem so shut the FU

I used RobW's great instructions...

Cool

Removed mine, very pleased and no problems.

Pre 97 cars sucked air from the inner wing area anyway, post 97 cars had the black pipe that came back into the engine bay.

Cheers guys. Ok, so a better panel filter is the next consideration. ITG is V.popular but so are complaints about MAF contamination!!!

Anybody got any comments on either ITG, K&N or STi panel filters?

(I told you I wanted to make my mind up before doing the do!!)

Cheers,

Matt.

Before I had the HKS induction kit I used a K+N panel filter and that was very good. No problems with contamination or MAF failures. I've also removed the resonator with no adverse effects (haven't fiited any splash guards either). I've also experimented with a cold air pipe directing air from below the front spoiler up to the engine bay with no adverse effects.
