I have very recently bought a 96 (N) impreza, and have a few questions.
1. I have seen lots of comments relating to 'piston slap' - is this VERY common on Impreza's (as it would appear from this forum), and if so what type of sound should I look out for too see if mine is afflicted!
2. Judders - My car seems O.K. when pulling away, but feels a bit juddery through the pedals and steering wheel on the motorways at around 70-80 (even when the clutch is depressed). Is this normal?
3. I previously drove a Ford, and am unused to people in Imprezas flashing, smiling and waving at me as I pass them!

P.S. I apologise for my lack of technical knowledge.

 

1: '98 Model year cars are the ones on which piston slap is a common problem. These are now coming towards the end of their warranties, which is why people are listening for / getting fixed the piston slap. Hence the number of posts.

2: The judders most people refer to are the clutch juddering when setting off from cold. Juddering through the pedals / steering wheel is probably caused by either a fault with your tyres, or incorrect tracking/geometry.
