Question

I have had a problem with lack of performance at time's with my95 WRX. The car is better now that if have replaced a coil pack and boost solenoid. However when flooring the car at higher speeds in 5th at about 90 the car losses power and the exhaust temp light comes on. The original temp probe must have been broken off as the original hole has been welded and a new hole with a probe (which looks more like a lamda sensor has been installed....Could this be the problem??

Steve.

Steve if the exhaust temp is really high this could mean that the cars fuelling/ignition is not right and hence running too lean/rich.This why some modified cars have these monitors.Just a possibility, but I must warn you I am very often knoxn to talk out of my 8rse.

If I cut the wire's for this sensor, surely the ECU wouldn't know anything was wrong???

WRXsteve does the exhaust temp light look like a rectangle with two outlets at each end.

I had fuel cut today and the light came on with check engine just as the fuel was cut

Any clues as to what the light is for ?

Cheers

Lumby,
I'm not sure exactly what the light is for. I thought this may have been my problem, but the car is is splutering again without the light coming on.

Steve.

Steve,
When I fitted my 94 WRX with a Scoobymania downpipe I un-plugged the exhuast temp sensor. I'm 99.99% sure the car runs fine without this sensor. Sounds like you've got another problem but try unplugging the non OEM sensor first.
Regards
John

This light shows that the cat is overheating.

It could be a number of problems, but most likely either its running too weak or the cat has broken down and is restricting the flow. The restriction would create a lot of heat and may explain why you have lost performance.

I would get it to someone who can do some diagnostics.

The sensor puts the light on if the temp goes over 600degC.
