There is a resonance that kicks in at about 4000-4500 rpm that causes the brake pipes to vibrate against the bulkhead. Are you sure this isn't the problem -- it can be fixed by bending the pipes away or putting something squishy between them and the bulkhead. Mine did this from new, and it used to worry me until I found out what it was.

As you can tell by the time this ones keeping me awake! I've got a MY00 P1 with 16,500 miles otc, ss back box, and K+N panel filter, it has always been run on 97ron. The engine has recently developed a quite loud "tappety" sound most noticeable between 4000/4500 rpm. Anyone know if it is likely to be the tappets, and if so are they adjustable? If it's not the tappets whats the likely cause? Need some info so that I'm armed for the dealers response.
Sounds like a "death rattle", please help!
Thanks. D.no

Thanks Carl, sorry for the delay in responding- never seem to find time. The tapping/resonance has now stopped since a recent trip to Le Mans. Dealer thought it was resonance too, but coming from the turbo shroud??
It's weird what a good thrashing can solve!
