Please could you help I would like to know what has been the average life of a Clutch on our cars as they cant make there mind up at our lovely Subaru dealers they seem to think that a clutch should last 15000 miles max at one dealer and 40000 at another so what has been the average on yours before you have had to change it ?
Thanks

I had a Mini which I did approx 60k in and never had a clutch in it, the gearbox went first It just seems to depend on what sort of driving you do - I do lots of motorway (not fun in the Min, better in the scooby )

I had the clutch changed on my MY98 at 37000 miles because of judder, under warranty. There was no sign of clutch slip prior to this. I had the opportunity to inspect the old clutch plate after it was removed and I suspect it would have failed within another 10000 miles.
My previous scoob (MY95) was sold when it was 3 years old with 39000 miles and it still had the original clutch (no slip when sold).
I think that if you behave yourself, a clutch can last 40-50000 miles easily. I'm sure that, in most cases, high revs standing starts are the main cause of premature clutch failure.

Thanks guys i won't name the dealer that said 15k max but general opinion is 20k and under it could be done under warranty !
I would like to get as many as i can for reference purposes so i can then make up my mind on how long they should last under normal driving conditions

My UK00 car has done 33k. Generally very gentle driving (while singing to the stereo ) plus six track days.
The clutch has always juddered a bit, especially cold, but it's now beginning to annoy me. I'm going to ask for a new one under warranty at the next service.
Richard.
