Ok, So this is probably not the right thread to post this message in but...
I have never driven a scooby or been in one but mine is nearly ready in the garage....
My mate let me take his 300bhp (print out ot proove it...at flywheel) sunny out for a spin...
F00k me if the scooby is half as quick i will **** myself...
how do you reckon they compare. just out of interest...

The GTIR is actually quite a heavy little car... there isn't much in it between a GTIR and a scooby, especially an RA model.
The GTIR drivetrain isn't quite as efficient as the subaru one, so the car tends to loose more power before it gets to the road.
The GTIR has a great engine which runs seperate throttle bodies for each cylinder and a chain driven valvetrain on a turbocharges engine... nice.

All depends what Subaru it is - the justy won't feel quite as quick
Seriously - if the GTi-R really does have 300bhp then it will be a match (more than?) for a mildly tuned UK car, but an STi will have the edge. GTi-Rs (in my experiance) don't 'use' the horsepower very well - i.e. need a lot more than a subaru do go as quick, but a 300hp car will be quicker than a similar weighted 200hp car!!

I currently have a "supposedly" 300ish bhp WRX. My previous car was a tested 340bhp GTI-R, although it was extremely rapid it was only slightly quicker than the much heavier car I now have. The WRX still has many mods to come and will hopefully become quicker whereas the GTI-R was probably at its limit. The power transfer obviously seems better in the WRX and handling is a definate improvement. The drive is also a lot more refined in the WRX, you can act like you're in a Mondeo when plodding thru towns and villages etc, but the GTI-R was so aggresive to drive it was like trying to control a rabid Rottwieller on a leash!!! The GTI-R is a fantastic car and I loved it (its also a more rare sight on the roads these days) but the Scoob just eclipses it. IMHO
PS: The Sunny is bl**dy noisy in comparison!

I once test my old 315bhp (PowerStation) GTI-R againt my friends ropely old STI with 310bhp on the M5. Through 3rd and 4th the GTI-R lost about half a car length.
Nothing much would get close in a 0-60 dash though

The only other cars my friends own that are going to get close are:
Golf GTi Turbo (w reg)
190bhp Escort Rs Turbo... Sorry Did I say close....
I realise that its going to take a lot to get my car to accelerate quicker... so Im gonna make sure mine stops and corners quicker! should then be pretty even...
Mine 4 Pot's & Braided Hoses... May invest in ebc pads...
His standard size (unsure what this is) grooved disks.. with new pads... faded pretty quick... started appologising about smoke pouring from the front wheels...

There's a 0-60 test of a Subaru STI against a Nissan Sunny in this months Banzai magazine. Both cars are heavily modified.
I used to compete against the black STi Harewood Hillclimb. Very impressive motor. Studendiously quick.

Jeez - why even mention those awful cars
I had an Escort Turbo with 220hp - series 2 on H plate - it was total pants - gearbox and clutch (even on AP clutch) could not take the abuse - you could not control it in 1st, 2nd and 3rd - and the brakes and handling were awful (Koni set up)
Golf Gti turbo.. - they are too slow - granny car! (I have an audi turbo, as well.. so I know)!
GTir is good for the money if your on a budget and want the performamce - a Cossie (Escort) is still goign at too high a price and you can pick up very nice Gtir examples for low money - I guess the problem for some is the insurance. I test drove a GTir - the handling, brakes and turn in ability were absolutely awful and it did not feel quick - then again my Scooby cost about £20k more!

Rover 214is
Rover 214Sli
Corsa Sport
Corsa Sport
Cavalier Sri (Can of Beer SRi)

Renault 5gtt
Uno turbo (in bits... needs a reshell due to brown stuff on the panels (rust... fiat factory fit option)
Nova Sr...
See why I mentioned the others....

ive raced a mate with approx 300bhp gtir and it was very quick.....once it got going. Compared to my scooby,(uk 97my k&n, decat center scorpion zorst) i think to about 60mph i might of had it, i was behind him and had to hold back a little. we got up to about 120mph and i struggled to keep up, saying that he was surprised how well I did. I don't think you will be disappointed with your scoob.

It was your scooby then... then it is you that is to blame.. after going to the hill climb a couple of times.. I saw the subaru and decided I wanted one!
Just out of interest does that car have a dumpvalve?? or is the noise from the standard dumpvalve or wastegate or similar?
And if a scoob is that close to a gti-r Ill make sure I race him on a twisty runway with some err.. roundabouts in the middle of the runway! Ill have him on breaking.. even if I use a tree (on a runway??) to stop!

I'm to blame for you buying a Scooby ~ LOL.
A collegue did the same when I bought a wide bodied Quattro turbo. He was so impressed he bought a Quattro
Yes mine does have a atmos. dump valve. During 99/00 it had a noisy cheap one. Now its still got an APEXI one which is still noisy but I shouldn't be able to blow the thing apart
PS ~ It was Presspahn's Impreza which was put up against the Sunny & not mine.... Mine isn't **THAT** quick

If I did not need the space of the scooby then I may well have gone for a GTiR, as they are funky cars.
Basically, depending on what's been done to them they might give a scoob a run for it's money
Oh, and if anyone slags off the scoop on my scooby I point them towards the wierd thing on the bonnet of the GTiR

My standard MY97 Scoob is not as fast (in a straight line) as my old Nissan 200SX 1.8, the Nissan got faster with age, weighed a fraction less and the 2WD produced less drive-train drag. This is based on in-gear acceleration times where the gearing compares.
