Hi, anyone know how to disable the speed limiter on a 93WRX? I need to do some top end testing on track. Can the speedo be disconnected temporarily, or something like that?
Cheers Rob.

Best thing would be to get a delimiter fitted, probably abot 130 quid, this will remove the 112mph limit.
If you disconnect the speedo cable then you will get the check engine light come on, and the engine will be safe mode, limited to, I think, 4000 rpm.
I've got a 93 WRX and a delimiter fitted, works well, converts kph to mph as well. 112mph limit is removed, verified this going through germany last year
hope this is of some use.

Which speedo do you have? On my 95WRX I have a speedo that goes up to 180ish but I have seen other cars where the speedo only goes up to 110ish.
The 180 dash in my car used to be in kph and the limiter cut in at 180kph (which is 112mph) but I think they put a gearbox on the back of the dash which changed the speed of the cable making the dash read in mph. The only other thing they did was put a mph sticker over the kph. The limiter is apparently set on the dash at 180 so when it was in kph it limited it at 180kph/112mph but now it is in mph the limiter is at 180mph.
I don't know how you delimit a car with 110mph dash, you may need to replace it!
(The above is how I understand it so may be wrong! )
Markus is correct about disconnecting the speedo. My cable broke over the weekend, the check engine light came on and I've been limited to 4500rpm ever since!

The way my system works is that I have a little silver metal box which contains reduction gears, One end of the box plugs into the gearbox, and the other end gets the speedo cable put into it. The reduction gears change it from kph to mph, which also removes the 112mph limit. however I believe that at a certain speed, don't know what though, there is still a limit, as the reduction gears just move the limit 'up the scale' I've had it up to an indicated 130mpg,(probably only a real 120 - 125) in germany and certainly did not hit any limit, just run out of puff, and when my original delimiter thing broke I did bounce it off the 112mph limit soI do have a comparison for it hitting the limiter.
I would guess that with the 110 dash the needle would just sit at the top end of the scale, or just off it, don't know if this would cause problems though?
Though of course you'd never be going that fast on a public road would you, so it would not be a problem
