"Gloop" on ITG filters

Just recieved my ITG filter thru the post and fitted it this morning. I noticed (hard not to) that the filter is impregnated with an oily substance; am I not right in thinking that oiled filters are a bad thing for the ole MAF sensor?
It seems that everyone has an ITG so I assume I'm missing something here; is it special non-MAF knackering oil or what?
BTW, completely off topic - thanks to TSL for mailing the filter out to me so quickly: I was beginning to think that Subaru after market companies couldn't understand that mail order actually means putting the stuff in the post...
Know where I'm doing my mail order business in the future..

Simon, keep a close eye on it and check the air box for a while as you will probably find that some oil runs out of it during use, if its excessively oiled then mop some of it off, anything on the surface is surplus to requirements, the air is filtered as it passes thro the filter not over it.

This filter is slighty dampened by an oil which allows it to collect the more finer particles of air!!
This will not mess up the MAF and i think you'll find 70% of cars without an induction kit use this filter as it is claimed to be the best panel filter on the market.
It must be,i have one
Hope this helps

Hi Simon
My ITG filter was exactly the same as yours. It mentions in the instructions to wipe off any excess oil using a lint free cloth. I've run mine for nearly 10,000 miles now and the air box is still cleaner than a clean thing.
Cheers

I wouldn't call it oil either - just some form of sticky, sticky gloop.
You'll find anything that comes of the filter will do so via gravity....so it'll slowly drop into the bottom of the airbox (atmosphere side).
Just take it out again in a few weeks and clean up any spillage.
