Matt

Quite often the pack will still fire, but the spark is not strong enough to be effective.

Hi Folks,

....the one nearest the driver.

I'm running on three and it doesn't appear to be ignition (checked spark, swapped spark plug). No violent noises, no smoke. Engine has done a 100K miles. MY94.

Anything I can easily check next before it goes to a garage with effectively a blank cheque? I fear the worst.....

Any help appreciated....

Thanks Pete,

We did try starting the engine with the coil pack / spare plug hanging loose. We got a spark so ignition seems OK (although I don't know how strong the spark should be). I'm thinking (hoping) it's fuel.....

Thanks again for the response. Looking at previous threads #3 seems to be the weakest link usually. Could this be a coincidence?

Thanks again Pete,

Sorry - two more questions.

#1. If your right shouldn't I expect backfire?

#2. How OK is it to drive on 3 cylinders - my 'local' scoob garage is 40 miles away (and I've already been about that far on 3 as it is).

Not really.

Yes you shouldn't have to many problems driving the car as long as you drive it without thrashing.
