Front entry TD05 fitting to MY02 help please...

Just been to see the guys fitting my front entry TD05 to my 02 bugeye and there appears to be a problem. There is a threaded lug on the housing of the TD05 which isn't there on the original TD04.
This treaded lug on the TD05 fouls the engine and just wondered if it could be removed altogether ??

Shaun, please e-mail me the pic, I have just modified my own TD05 for Front entry and have it sitting here ready but its on an older engine (STi4). I tried it in place last night and all seems well so I assume the bit you speak of only affects newer engines?

I just cant imagine how this lump on the casting can foul on the gearbox, it's miles away, it doesn't even go anywhere near the gearbox, the nearest thing to it is the fuel regulator. On my MY00 there is a similar lump on the TD04 in the same position, it locates the oil feed pipe retaining clip. The position of the lump is at "a quarter to twelve" with the turbo installed. Your picture shows the lump in the same position as on my TD05 which is the same on my TD04.
Can you get a picture showing where it fouls?

I've had a reply from Andy Forrest that the extra bit on the TD05 is only a support bracket for the oil pipe on the early cars and can be removed.
Alyn Stockton at AS performance has apparantly fitted a few TD05's to the Bugeyes and might be of more help than me. I gather his phone number is 01914 103770

OK Shaun, I thought it was catching the engine or gearbox! yes, I cant see any reason why you cant saw it off the oil pipe is rigid enough anyway.

Seems like it was genuine mistake, I was there at the time and told Nick that it was a direct swap and just bolts on in place of the original TD04. As I now know some modification may be necessary

I have done this swap and I think I know the lug you are talking about it is there to hold the oil feed line on the orignal car. I had to cut it off to clear the sensor. BTW you can not buy just the sensor, you have to buy the whole lowwer intake manifold unless you get one from a breaker.

I have just fitted a TD05 to an 02 car, i can confirm (if needed) that the lug is for the oil feed pipe bracket.
This lug fouls the Tumbler valve control solenoid connector, it has to be cut off of the turbo to fit. I used an angle grinder to cut the lug off and then shave flush with the housing.
You will also find that the water feed pipe on the TD05 fouls the phase two gearbox, the pipe was bent to solve this.
IMHO, if the Mechanic has broken the TVCS connector/solenoid he must replace it. He should have noticed that it was fouling and remedied this before continuing. All IMO...

Thanks for the post which I think finally sorts this out
BUT..........I now feel very stupid .
I was at Stan Palmers by chance when it was being bolted in, Nick who was fiting it was screwing the bolts a couple of threads at time saying there "wasn''t much room and... it's a lot bigger than the original and it was a tight fit etc..."...
I told him I had bought a "straight swap conversion" which I had been told was the case and he bolted it down and bent something on the manifold... my fault for telling him it was a "straight swap"

Don't think its your fault if you were led to believe it was a straight swap.
But me thinks you got the best dealer to fit it m8 so even if it is your fault at least its fitted proper like eh !

Guilty !! I led Shaun to believe this would just 'bolt on'
I had fitted this turbo to a MY02 previously using gruppe-s headers and it cleared ok. I can only presume the turbo was in a slightly different location when mounted on the tube headers ?

Not looking for a refund.."Caveat Emptor" m8....I won't divulge how much I paid for the FE TD05 but the retail price of a standard bugeye TD04 must be £1200 (ish) full price.

The TD05 seems an ideal compromise for someone who has to use a car everyday to get to work, go to Asda etc... and then the monster awakes at 3500 RPM to the rev-limiter !!

Hope mine works as well when it goes on my rally car, I'm hoping for better performance than the VF24 currently fitted, (both with 34mm restrictors as per the FIA ruling). I know the restrictor strangles the engine at the top end but I've heard that it can actually increase bottom end torque, does anyone know if this is true?

It can if its mapped properly. My mates group n STi6 runs GEMS and has a 32mm restrictor, and whilst it only runs about 265bhp it has about 320 llbs/ft torque.
