Does anybody know the differences between these two engines (MY98 for example) with regards to strength. I know the STI has stronger internals but do normal WRX's have stronger internals? Just wondering because I've read that the UK cars can be tuned to around 280 bhp before problems with internals may occur. If that's true and WRX engines are the same then any mods would be a bad idea as they are already putting out 276 bhp as standard. Anybody?

Off the top of my head, the MY99-00 UK car and WRX are basically the same engine. I think the differences were larger, the older the model you are talking about.

In general they are very similar depending what was specified at the time of order from STI, so you can never know the exact config of the STI version car.

The biggest difference is normally the turbo and pistons.

I have come across sooooooo many variations I have given up trying to work it out.

STi Pistons, Crank, Cams, Head Gasket Turbo???

What are the main uprated parts... or what is available?
