What difference would i notice with a Tek3?
I'm running my classic (MY00) fully decatted+ itg filter. What benefits would i feel from having something like a Tek 3?
I'm not bothered by top end speed...but like power at the lower end.
Does something like a Tek 3 just give all round improvement? What would i notice if i drove a Classic Scoob with it as opposed to one like mine with just a full decat?
Edited to say I'm running a Classic UK turbo.
thanks.

you would notice a far better response by posting this in drivetrain.
but the answer you are looking for is an increase in torque and spool up as a result of tailored fuelling and ignition timing. I short you can achieve gains everywhere as well as improved fuel economy. they can even over fuel it on overrun so that you get more in the way of pops and bangs.

Since you've already done the exhaust and induction, an EcuTek3 remap will make your car go like with a PPP kit, but better and faster. A good mapper will taylor the ECU exactly to the components on your car and optimise them
The PPP kit is relatively tame and with a Tek3, the margins can be pushed a little further. You'll need some Samco intercooler hosing under the intercooler as the stock item has horrible flow charcteristics and they can blow with the increased inlet pressure. Easy to fit - ask your EcuTek mapper.

Thanks Hoppy,
Will a Tek3 effect the life of the engine in anyway? Can i be storing up problems for the future? or is it just maximising the full potential of the car?
My Classic MY00 has 36k on the clock.

To answer your question, a Tek3 will probably do more good than harm. It will correct any fuelling or ignition problems you may have, and you will already have started going down that road with the mods you've got now.
The two most common causes of Scoob engine failure are det (detonation), and oil. Often the two are related. A Tek3 remap will eliminate or minimise det, providing you stick to the recommended fuel. My car is mapped for SUL 97 RON, but I always use Optimax (98+). On a track day, I'll bung in some Millers OB which gives another 2 RON for safety. I also have a KnockLink (det detector) and if that gets a bit frisky, I'll either reduce the boost (via a Dawes device) or bung in some OB. A KnockLink is highly recommended and would probably have saved dozens of Scooby imports that are supposed to run on Japanese 100RON fuel and don't take kindly to UK fuel. Unless you know exactly what to listen for, you can't hear det until it goes bang. A faulty MAF sensor is another common cause. Det is an evil engine-killer and whatever state of tune your motor is in, it will get you sooner rather than later. Get a KnockLink. Oh, and avoid induction kits and silly things like VTA blow-off valves.
The other danger area is oil, and oil changing. Scooby-friendly fully synth oils are Mobil Motorsport 15-50 and Castrol RS 10-60 (watch the numbers as both oils are available in different viscosities). Motul is also highly recommened but hard to get and I can't remember the spec. Drive very gently until the oil (not just water temp) is fully warmed, and allow plenty of time for the turbo to cool before you switch off. Basic stuff, really.
When changing the oil, always pre-fill the filter to the brim. This can take quite a while! Then disconnect the crank sensor (under the alternator) and turn the engine on the starter motor for about a minute. This will get some fresh oil to the important bits. Fully warm the engine on tick-over before driving.
The opposite of the above technique is not to pre-fill the filter, then jump in the car and give it a good thrashing with cold oil. But you can't imagine a young and unsupervised garage technician doing that, now can you Hence so many engine failures soon after a service.
My car is pushing over 300bhp and as good as ever after 80k miles Touch wood!
Richard.

VTA DVs are bad because they dump air outside, instead of inside the inlet tract, which is what the ECU is expecting. It bu99ers up your fuelling. Some people say it does no harm, others that it does. Whatever, it's certainly not doing any good.

had a Tek 3 fitted by scoobysport about 3 months ago and its transformed my car, easier to drive, better mpg, faster top end, the list goes on and on!! money well spent and it makes the car go like it should have when it was new!!

i had TEK2 done at Power Engineering a few weeks ago, finished with 277 BHP, 266 lb.ft torque cost £587 thru the group buy( £700 odd normally)
i asked your same question when i was thinking about having it done and the general line of thought seemed to be a TEK2 was advisable over the TEK3, the main reason being that my limited mods(itg panel filter, full magnex decat on ukMY99) didn't really warrant the setting up a TEK3 does.
my TEK2 was mapped with a preset map for filter/full decat then tweaked to give the boost etc. targets PE look to reach, and the results are superb!
i don't know the cost of a TEK3 but it may be more cost effective to go down the TEK2 route?
whatever you do though, you won't regret it!

Neilo - You will be looking at paying £700ish.
As long as your car is MY99 or newer - you can have the treatment
I personally recommend you full decat before you do it
Let the good times roll

Better MPG ?....that sounds interesting. How much better? I get about 22mpg at the moment from my fully decated MY00.
Anyone had a tek3 done at Xtreme Scoobies in Essex...any good?
