I am a complete technical muppet, but when I saw my OEM DP come off and the Magnex/Falkland equivalent - just as you say there is a whole area blocked off just past the wastegate on the std one. The twin dump varieties are supposed to separate the gas from the turbo from the rest of the engine - they then combine further down the pipe. This is supposed to increase flow and reduce turbulence, hence increase torque. Don't know whether it does, but it feels good like any DP would I'm sure. Not seen any comparative data.

What is the advantage (if any) of a twin dump downpipe over a standard decat downpipe?

Does it allow the turbo to spool up quicker?

Why do some downpipes just blank off the part where the secondpipe is on twin dump variants?
