Car being serviced - dealer oil?
#1
I use Mobil 1 Motorsport 15/50w between services. My car is having a service at the weekend and the dealer said they put in semi-synthetic for the oil change. I'm not sure which type though.
Should I change it afterwards but leave the filter? Or should I leave it in until my mid service change?
I don't want to supply my own oil to the dealer if I can help it (worried that it won't go in my car!).

Semi-syth... that sounds a bit dodgy - nver heard of anyone putting this in a turbo scoob!
Then again probably not much worse than crap like say Castrol Magnetec - useless gunge...
For interim services - about every 3000 miles I give the garage the Silkolene and make sure they put it in... watching them.. to make sure they put in more than the specified 4.5 litres - in my car 4.8 litres is about right....

Subaru UK recommend Semi Synthetic oil as most standard Fully Synthetic oils are to thin (eg 0w50 0w60). Last time I checked dealers were using Shell Helix Plus(?).
There is a _very_ long thread on no.3 bearing failing in this section which covers oils fully. Well worth reading if you have an hour or two.
If you want full synthetic oil used at the next service just give it to the dealer for him to use.

I've read the Big end No3 and that's what started me to worry more about the oil. When I last spoke to the dealer about the grade and type that they used, I got the reply that 'Don't worry, it's got a 3 year warranty, hasn't it'. That's all very well until something goes wrong and IM won't pay up!
I think that dealers don't do warranty stuff on certain problems because they don't get enough hours to do the jobs from IM. They just say IM wouldn't let us do it instead...
I'll feel embarressed to give them my own oil and then watch them put it in to make sure. I'd feel like such a geek/anorak.

Car serviced now, the invoice showed 5/40 synthetic was used but not the maker. I'd better not do the 'continental' speeds until it's changed again although it is a better oil than I first thought I'd get.

Oh, forgot to mention that they fitted some nice new discs as well!
I also got a Legacy as a loan car, it had leather and cruise control and 'everfing' ! I much prefer the Justy though because it make syou appreciate the Scoob more.
