Default Fitting a HKS FMIC!!

Has anyone got any information on fitting one of these beasts...I want to know how much bumper removal is required, if you have to loss the brake cooling ducts, if I will have to lose the intercooler waterspray bottle etc etc!

The more info. the better!!

Cheers

Dom

Shouldn't be a problem Dom.

HKS I/Cs are model specific, WHY.

@3" of front bumper Require removal. Including No plate moulding.

I/c W/S bottle is retained. Will you need it?

Right, thanks for the replies and photo's!! The intercooler is in, I've had to order an air dam off MRO as we had to take most of the bumper off.

We've also covered the big hole with a metal gauze to help prptect the intercooler, not too sure how this looks so I'm going to post some pictures later to gauge your views.

I haven't driven it yet as it is having a MOT.......emissons shouldn't be a problem

We've debating if theres any point in rellocating the water spray nossles...what do you think!

Ok, heres some piccies!

We lost the intercooler waterspray bottle, just couldn't fit the filter in! The MRO air dam will be fitted next week and the bumper will be tidied up!

The car is running a lot leaner so I'm taking it easy until I see BR in a couple of weeks, the boost still comes on strong at 3000 so no lag and the delivery is a lot smoother and progressive!

I'm not sure about the wire gauze, what do u reckon?

Dom

ditto franko..
I was advised around 9mm mesh for best protection/performance.. you may find that the above might be a little restrictive- altho BR will no doubt set you straight when its mapped

just having face lift and APS FMIC (stealth black) by Scoobyclinic. i supplied halfords motorsport mesh for protection/looks (approx the size Chrome mentions) - i think it'll flow a little more air than the stuff you have used.

cost of the mesh was £17.99 per pack (obviously only one needed for that appature - perhaps a little pricey compared to garden centre stuff).

ps.. no the red hose is not connected yet - pics taken part way through the install. IC is neatly hidden and hopefully well enough protected.

Cheers for the replies!

The gauze looks a lot denser in the photos', I'll leave it for now and see what BR says!

Just got to wait 2 weeks for my remap with BR, can't really give it any stick as she's running a lot leaner as the KL shows!

Car is going to look good Kev, how long before you're on the road?

hi Dom,

good point re the gauze - when i first fitted that mesh to my old bumper and took photos from a similar distance to yours.. it did look less breathy (is that a new word ) than the close ups above. never seemed to cause a problem cooling the engine.

hopefully i will have the car back by the end of the week. the guys at Scoobyclinc are working towards getting it back to me in time for Sunday's Notts/Derby meet. then i can concentrate on running it in sharpish - planned a few long distance nights out and runs over the next couple of weeks. can't wait.

so what's your full spec and expected achievement after BR's mapping? i am gonna be organising a RR day at Powerstation around early April (will phone then today) if you wanna come along?

Kev

Kev,

Would be interested to see what it makes at power station, last rolling road I did was at Power engineering, it made 320/300 which was very impressive considering I was using the standard slanty TMIC!!!

Mods so far are - Gpn N decat, uprated fuel pump and reg, 550cc injectors, K&N, Link ECU and HKS fmic!! Car is a STI RA so it comes with the ultra c/r box and adjustable Diff.

Maybe get into the 350's!!

nice spec Dom,

and a good indication of what i can aim for. my spec is:

STi 2 RA (engine)
full decat
piper-x
440 inj
uprated pump + reg
Custom Scoobyecu map - to be tweaked once car is run in
APS FMIC just fitted

The car is originally a MY95 WRX, but has a UK box and diff. i guess yours'd make more torque lower down than mine due to gearing.

i did manage 295/264 @ 1.3 bar (held) with an early WRX open deck in December - only had stock slanty TMIC back then and the engine build was ****e (early WRX with no oil cooler, big heavy pistons and hydrolic lifters etc).

just out of interest, what boost were you running when you got yer 320/300?

Kev

Kev,

I was running about 19psi peak which dropped back to about 16psi when I recorded those figures....it might have got a bit more torque but the power dropped off severely from 3700 to 4600 which was described as a hole in my map!!!

Most impressive was peak torque of 292lb which was achieved at 3600rpm!!!

My car is a STI RA version 2 so should be similar figures.

yeah should be fairly similar - glad to have yours as a comparison as i have no previous experience of the ra engine. reckon i'll be pretty chuffed once its run in and mapped. by the way i have posted RR thread here for April.

Kev

ps. simlarly, on the old engine, my graph shows a dip between about 4100 & 5400 rpm, although i never noticed any shortfall in performance
