I am thinking of getting an induction kit for MY99 RB5, I have heared of problems with the maff sensor on MY99.

Please Help

I've read on here the safest induction kit you can get that does'nt pi55 off the Maf too much is the K & N.

I used to run a Blitz SUS cone filter and went through 2 MAF's in about 6 months. I reverted back to standard air box and a "cotton green" panel filter and no probs ever since. ( Famous last words )

ive just done my 1st maf sensor in and i only found out mine was gone after the ecu reset itself after the battery died and ive had a K&N induction kit on for over a year

Fed up> with blown MAFs on standard ECU?

I've had a Nissan300zx MAF +housing fitted to mine.

Has withstood about a ltr of oil sloshing passed it over the past 4 months. (Don't ask why?)

Stood the test on a fairly high modded STI 5 Type R!

Fit a panel filter not an induction kit for safety


The difference in "gain" over the 2 is not worth considering but the difference in potential "loss" is bundles

alot of mappers will not map your car with a induction kit on. ask them first m8. you could always fit it at the same time.

Well, I don't know due to having fitted an induction kit, but I did have a failed MAF on an OE airbox/filter which led to det and engine destruction

I now have a K+N Panel Filter & a Knocklink



I also recently had a Lambda Sensor die on me but fortunately before it did any damage to my NEW engine

I am shortly fitting a LambdaLink


Both sensors will be replaced at the end of the year and subsequent years after. I am not going to risk another expensive engine expiry.

I bought my '96 scoob about 6 weeks ago, it had the Blitz SUS power cone filter on it, after talking to knowlesy at extreme scooby, cone filters are a bad thing for the engine, let alone the MAF sensor, so I called Grade A to get an original air box. At the essex meets, ITG panel filters are highly recommended.

I already have an ITG panel filter. I think I will stick with that. Thanks for the advice.

Hmmm, frying pan and fire... The gunk on ITG filters is known to come off and coat the MAF sensor.

While the earlier and later MAF sensor designs to be slightly more resistant to contamination, the version on the MY99 and MY00 cars seems really susceptible to damage. RB5_IOM: If it was my car I'd take the ITG out and fit an STi, K&N or Green filter instead.

I'm looking into this, are you running an aftermarket ecu or is the signal the same ? how much did it cost?

Cheers for the advice, everyone seems to say the same about the ITG. Had it in the car for about 8 months. Better replace it before I hit any problems. Just incase I might already have, what do I need to look for?

Reset your ECU and see if your idle starts to wobble around.

I would get rid of the ITG as GM says. The Green cotton ones are much less oiled and much safer, as are the K&N and STi ones.

I tried a K&N cone on my MY99 and it didn't do much good, made more power on the RR without it. And they sound bloody awful. Imagine Darth Vader with atshma when you let your foot off the throttle

When you change the filter, you will have to take the MAF housing off. Have a look in there, im sure you will be surprised at the amount of gunk. The MAF controls gverns the fuelling on boost, which is why so many cars go bang when the MAF fails. Imagine all that gunk on there....

also running the blitz cone filter on my MY00 and its eaten 2 maf sensors in about 15K miles. this one has lasted me 10K up to now though, maybe i was just unlucky lol

Nope, the Blitz is one of the worst offenders and it will not doubt cost you another £100 before long - and give you naf all BHP in return

I still dont know what people expect to achieve by fitting one There are so many people against them on here (unless you have removed the need for the MAF or had your car mapped for one, and are feeding it good cold air etc etc...)
