Default what is an up-pipe? and where is it?

read a few threads recently and have seen this mentioned along with a replacement to de-cat it?

i thought at first a downpipe was being talked about, is there another part of my car that needs de-catting or have i got this round my **** the wrong way?

As far as i know..
The newage cars have a cat in the up-pipe..hence the reason for changing it.
It`s situated between the turbo and the headers ( i think).

Classics dont have a cat in the pipe, so not really a great benefit in changing it unless the mods are big.

Of course...i may be totally wrong !!

Jonny is correct-the up-pipe is the exhaust into the turbo and the classics dont have a cat in them, the MY01/02's have catted up-pipes but im pretty sure the 03's onward arent catted.

Not quite. The MY03 and MY04 UK market WRX's don't have the up-pipe cat. Not sure about the Japanese and US market cars.
