Question STi Clutch cover question......

Consudering replacing my troublesome AP organic cover plate with my old STi v3 unit.
The surface of the pressure ring itself is smooth and free of grooves, BUT, when i put a straight edge across the 'diameter' of the ring there is a pronounced gap, about 1mm, to the edge from the inner diameter of the ring. this 'conical' shape is even all round, almost as if it had been machined this way.

Question: Is this normal? Every clutch I've changed on any car, the ring is dead flat!
