Default Legacy Turbo Starting Problems

Any ideas?

Turn the key and it turns over but doesnt catch?

Camshaft sensors are plugged in etc.

Was running fine, tried it this morning nothing.

Cant see the diagnostic cables under the dash? Do the Legacys have this?

Cheers

My old legacy only failed to start twice.

First time the fuel pump went - same as you was running perfectly before problem, turned off for an hour and wouldn't restart.

Second time, ran rough as a dog for the last few hundred yards of the journey home then wouldn't restart. Turned out to be a oiled up MAF sensor, it was cleaned and then ok.

Is it firing at all? if it is it maybe a MAF problem and too much/little fuel.

If not firing its probably an ignition related fault - do you have an immobiliser fitted, if so can you override it?

All what happens is you turn the key and the engine just turns over. No firing whatsoever at all.

Immobiliser is fitted, will try to override it. But when I had a problem with that before, it wouldnt even turn over. So I suspect the immobliser is fine.

Any other ideas?

Will pull the plugs tonight and coilpacks on each plug and try.

Where is the ignitor module on these? They are the coilpacks on the endo fthe sparks right?

Did ECU Diagnostics and came up with the 31 (Throttle Position Sensor) and 11 (Crankshaft Sensor). I removed the sensor on the right of the block (Crankshaft or not?) and cleaned it etc and put it back in. Reset the ECU and then only got code 31. Tried to start (Disabled the alarm) and it wont.

Checked:
Fusable Links
Fuses
ECU
Plenty of fuel in it

Not checked injectors. What do I look for on them?

Can the car be flooded? If so how do you 'unflood' it?!

David mind if I give you a quick call tonight?

How do you do this on a Legacy Turbo, and is there a list of fault codes. Trying to trace a hesitation (doesn't always do it) after an up-change on an auto, any ideas?

ECU Diagnostics is the same as the Impreza. Under the dash 2 black connectors. Push them together and it pulses.

www.derekcarswell.co.uk and goto ECU Diagnostics.

Removed the crankshaft sensor from my Type R and going to try it tonight with a butchered loom. There is only 2 wires so ill be ok

Ta very much. Performed same last night, 66 (3 off) and 32 (1 off), which translates to O2 sensor and sequential turbo system (thanks to the Twin Turbo Register for the CEL codes).

Performed ECU reset and took car for a brisk run. Result - absoloutely transformed the car, must have picked up some real bad habits with it's previous owner. Seems to have changed the shift pattern on the auto too, whatever, really, really pleased.

yep, haven't quite figured out why though which is slightly annoying but I'll live with it, BTW had assumed ECU reset just restored the engine side of things, not fully figured out why this has altered the shift pattern on the auto, box changes down now at the slightest prod. Not complaining, just curious.

Davidoff,

Glad the site helped

G/box now senses the load quicker, hence earlier shifts.
