MAF change and ECU reset on MY99
Hi
I am in the process of swapping a MAF sensor and understand you should do an ecu reset. First question is:
I have got to the ECU in the passenger footwell but how do you reset it?
Also, does anyone know if you need a special tool to get the MAF sensor out? It looks like a star drive.
Fast responses much appreciated.
Thanks

You need a 'Security Star bit' to undo the Maf Sensor bolts, these are avalible from most motor stores and come in different sizes.
To reset you ECU you dont need to get at the ecu, disconnecting the battery for an hour will do a reset, there is a quicker way, this involves a set procedure, try searching under ecu reset in the scoobynet search option

My 99 STi5 showed a MAF error when we plugged a digital readout into the ECU, it was idling very roughly (which is why we thought there was a problem).
Have just swapped the MAF now, done an ECU reset and seems a bit better, have to keep my eye on it for a while.....but it is 5 years old and thats not bad for a MAF sensor.
Good reference for ECU resets :
