Question Two questions about my AP clutch, and a solution?

Some of you may remember my problem with the AP organic clutch, pedal staying half way down only when accellerating hard.
Finally removed the box/clutch tonight.

Three things are apparent:

1 The assembly of the clutch/thrust /fork etc are all true and correct
2 One of the location dowls on the box is missing.
3 The serial number on the AP parts are: Cover, 4150/2 stamped next to the 'AP Racing' name, and driven plate,CP 6452-6.

OK, 2 questions:

If the box was assembled with the dowl missing, could the resulting mis alignment cause the thrust bearing to jamb or something of the like?

Are the numbers correct for an AP organic for an Sti v3?

I need your help again!

As mentioned in previous thread 911.
I had same problem!
fitted proper spring (Just Dug invoice out .It cost a Quid)
All is fine.

Also mentioned acouple of bolts had been missing on rebuild (Professionally done Doh!)
and felt this had caused slight misalignment.

So yes. I would think missing dowel may cause problems.
You would end up taking up play to one side of bolt/stud wholes resulting in misalignment.
Managed to rip the centre out my friction plate because of this.

BTW. These are two seperate problems.

Thanks SG, the box goes back in, but my Sti box this time!
Cluch parts all ok, new thrust too this time. All springs will be new/stronger, I really don't want to do all this again!
It's a tough job on your own with axlestands....and I've the rear diff next!

Have 2 new dowls from work today, so all should be ok?
I hope so!
thanks for the reply!

I solved this on mine, tonight.

It was the setup of the pedal in relation to the over-centre helper/return spring. When the pedal reached the point where the clutch pressure was starting to release, the spring was too far over centre, meaning the helper function was in full effect.

Remedy was to lengthen the rod to the master cylinder so when the clutch was releasing it was closer to te over centre point of the spring mechanism, such that there was enough force from the clutch and master cylinder to pop the mech over centre and into return mode.

No problems now, clutch feels much better over all.

Thanks Paul!
During all this stupidity on the clutch front, I removed the massive 'helper' spring, and the pedal comes to the top, BUT, while I am racing, the point where the pedal picks-up, the trust has sunk to half way down!
The whole lot goes back in tomorrow and i will do every mod i'm told, including yours.
Must be sorted after this lot.....
Graham.
