Question MY03/04 gearbox/clutch issues????

Chaps

Just covered 500 miles in my new MY04 Wagon. Since 50 miles I've noticed a vibration in the clutch pedal when changing gear, or by lightly pressing down on the clutch while in gear. I can only describe it as a 'buzz' feeling on my foot or something knocking very fast. While in gear, If I hold the gear stick tight to one side of the box and press the clutch lightly... I can feel the same 'buzz' in my hand... this of course might be normal from the gear stick.

I've also got what has been described as 'overrun' on 1st and 2nd gear when changing down and releasing the clutch, or pulling away. The 'overrun' is audible outside the car and sounds like a loose or worn gearbox.

After getting a Subaru person to test drive the car (with me in it) they've said the overrun is a feature with the gearbox on the MY03/04 engine, but they've not come back to me yet about the clutch 'buzz'.

Anyone had similar issues with the gearbox/clutch on their MY03/04??? I'm going to have a chat with the dealer later, but just wanted to hear peoples views.

Thanks. J.

Can't really help as different car-ish but my 6MT is fine with 7000 miles on clock.

Thanks Nathan

I'm probably worrying about nothing.... but you know what I'm like

Dave at LGW Subaru is on the case, so I'm sure it'll get sorted.

I certainly get the noisy overrun in gears - it doesn't sound very healthy - but can't say I have the "buzz".

Squadron-leader...

Spookily I just posted (before I read this post) a similar question having had a new clutch/skimmed flywheel fitted to my 1998 turbo, so await the answer from you dealer....

Hi

I get the buzz on the clutch pedal also - MY03 WRX 6.5k miles.

Most noticeable when changinging gear at 4 - 5k quickly.

I told the dealer, they test drove it and said they couldn't feel the problem.

keep us informed.

Thanks for the replies chaps.

Interesting to read (other posts) I'm not the only one who's got a similar problem. Have to say the 'buzz' was not there first thing this morning and the clucth pedal felt like my old MY99 Scoob!

After a few miles and bit more right foot action...... the 'buzz' was back, but not as bad. I'll be off to the dealer for my 1000K service in a few weeks, so I'll keep you posted.

Apart from the 'buzz' the new car is performing very well. I've taken her (once) up to 5000K revs and must admit she pulled much better than my old MY99.

Also nice to see with the AC on.... the performance and general smoothness of the engine is sh*t...... just like my old MY99

Maybe its a secret way of Subaru telling you which pedal is the clutch one

I though all cars had this characteristic???
