maybe the thread title should be; "who can make unequal length tube headers that dont cost the earth but have similar gains to gruppeS? "
I have OBX, and am considering a change to more unequal headers as I miss the 'scoob rumble'..
BUT
nealr all the alternative manfilds I have looked at are SILLY money..
the OBX and gruppeS ones were quite reasonable (around £350 ish)
can anyone compete with that?>????

The DR motorsport ones look good. He has priced them @ £450 inc vat with up pipe, £20 for post if needed. They are Stainless too!
This seems very comparible to Gruppe S?
further, his design has a 3 bolt up pipe flange to aviod leaks in this area which John Banks etc are suffering from.
The Power station's are equal (shame) but have the up pipe integral to the fabrication, one less gasket, but roll in at about £600.
Looks good to me. Wonder what a group buy would do to the price?

I`m considering some, dont mind paying the price for the right one, just want to be able to fit & forget, dont want any problems pi££ing about with gaskets etc.
I just cant decide which to go for.

Know the feeling!
I'm bothered by the issues the Group buy guys had with gaskets and the Gropp s headers, but have read things are better now, but I got some good response from DR motorsport. These look good and are priced right!

I was part of the very first GruppeS gb.. but i sold them to Nezz @ TOTB2 after I had read about JB and other's problems.. I wanted minimum hassle, so went for an alternative- OBX from the US also...
A mate sorted out supply for a GB with OBX and that was that
however, I have since read/heard a lot of good things about the later batches of gruppeS and their behaviour is a bit more mid range biased rather than the OBX top end 'screamers' apparenty .
all imo of course..
looking for alternatives even so..
OBX are fun, but getting sick of having to rewrap headers regularly they hang VERY low and get caught on dips at speed up in the peaks tearing the wrap

Chrome, interesting, never thought about ground clearance. I run my hill climb Sti quite low so a consideration...
I was chasing some OBX units, but the seller in the end wouldn't sell them to me, 'not good enough'!
Keep up the search!
Note that the PowerStation headers have the up pipe built in, but they are equal length.

My newer gruppes headers are fine. They have much thicker flanges now, and use normal sized up-pipes which means you can use a flex, or slip jointed one. I've had no problems with mine, since installation a few days ago, and I've given it some stick in that time (lots of boost, launch control, flat shifting and various pops, bangs and flames).

Pavlo, pleased to hear it!
Would you consider that they are a 'top end' enhancer to power, or give a good increase to mid range, ie 3500 to 5000rpm?
I need the mid range torque for the hill climbs far more than 7000 rpm BHP.
What is your opinion on what you can see on the DRmotorsport site for the GT headers? (site address above in this thread).

I can't really say how they power is delivered compared to any other header, i do know they are not bad at all. The DR motorsport are the same as the "GT spec" headers with triple bolt up-pipe. I would avoid that simply because you are tied to that up-pipe, which is good with 3 bolt clamp I suppose, but mine have been fine with just the supplied subaru gasket, and I've not re tightened them at all.
I would expect better off boost performance from the 4-2-1 headers like the power station ones, and I know they are good torque wise. But on boost I don't think there is much in it, and I get great spool up as it is.

I think the Grupp-S are based on the HKS headers - if they are, they will have a sudden improvement at ~4,300rpm - quite noticeable on a logged power run - but this doesn't make them any worse than the standard ones below that rpm. Spool point probably is around 200rpm higher, but there appears to be less lag than with the standard headers.

good info- cheers Paul..
I thought about getting an ally sump guard fab'd up to protect the collector from ground impact, but then it would probably still catch on speed bumps- which i have to crawl over as it is.. /large dips and no doubt cause a lot of sparks
.. hmm. maybe time to look into some GruppeS ones.. again

nom,
Interesting, my dyno graph from ProSport does show a jump at around 4400 and there is a raised plateau on my dataloglab power graphs between 4400 and 5400RPM could just be coincidence though.
Andrew...another happy V2 Gruppe-s user...

it should be fine
I would only attach the rear most stud of the up-pipe to the engine brakett though, mine also was only bolted to engine with the lower bolt, this suports the turbo without retraining it too much. The factory up-pipe is flexible so needs more support. Some people run without the bracket enirely, but I wouldn't personally.

I would stick with oem headers and a decent up-pipe..
I know someone with 430lbft on a rally car with std headers..
(ported at a guess tho)
