Question Lagging Down Pipe: worth it?

Have a decat 3'' Magnex down pipe with funnel neck for waste gate .
Is there any real advantage to wrapping it?
I don't suffer from the heat or the noise, just wondering if the effort/cost is worth any performance.

! You must have a lot of lagging tape!
From Demon Tweeks, the tape and the stainless strapping is quite expensive, so will only do it if there is a performance gain (a real one!)

911,
I am thinking the same way as you , I will probably lag the down pipe as it gets very hot whilst sprinting. The clutch master cylinder is right above above and the original exhaust cowl doesn't fit. Also all the brake pipes are quite close, despite fitting a plate under the clutch slave cylinder it still gets hot. I will probably lag the brake and clutch lines instead .

I would definitely lag the upper half of the downpipe - initially i didn't and the downpipe got so hot it damaged the speedo cable which ran close by. The lower half is certainly going to get better cooling as it is exposed beneath the car.

www.raldes.co.uk is one of the cheapest places for this stuff if you finally decide to lag your exhaust!

The longest hill climb I do is about 60 sec, and the shortest 34 secs!
I realy think you should get the original top heat shield back on 5300, the heat will be gross to the parts you say. It is very simple to trim! Bugger to put back on though...

I think this is worth the try, can't loose much can I.
Engines at API at the moment (head gasket fooked) so access for once is easy.

Thanks for the 'chat' everyone!
