It detects detonation in your engine from the supplied sensor and displays this on a series of coloured LEDs.
Depending on the severity of the knocking (detonation) then more of the LEDs will light up.

Detonation is where the fuel explodes rather than burns. This can cause damage to your piston and cylinder head and give you big repair bills.
There is a knock sensor fitted to the engines as standard which sends a signal to the ECU to retard the ignition when knock is detected. However you have to take on trust that the knock sensor is working correctly and the ECU is protecting your engine from detonation.
The KnockLink gives peace of mind that your engine is not seeing det and therefore not being damaged. LED's show the level of det so if you see too much activity on the LED readout you can back off the throttle yourself and protect your engine.

I removed the right hand air vent grill from the centre of the dash on my 95wrx and placed the knocklink in there with a bit of sticky velcro to hold it in place.
Removed the Tmic, bolted in the sensor to block.
3 wires: Positive / Earth / Sensor
I used the ciggy lighter for the positive. Connected the earth to the body and pulled the sensor wire through the bulkhead & connected it to the sensor.
Done a test, turned the sensitivity to max on knocklink. Then tapped the block or the bolt lighty. All led's would light up. Put the tmic back on. Finished.
