Please HELP!! Auto Gearbox slipping??
Hiya,
My mate has a 1995 'M' Reg WRX Turbo (Jap Import) Its an Automatic and done 54,000 miles.
Problem is when the car is changing gears from 2nd to 3rd it seems to be slipping. If you are driving slowly then when it tries to change gear the revs just climb high but theres no power, if you then floor the accelerator you feel a little click and the car goes into gear without any problem.
We checked the transmission fluid and it was near enough empty so we put in 2 litres but that hasn't solved the problem.
My mate is worried now that the gearbox is on its way out ... Any ideas what the problem could be and who might be able to have a look at it to advise further.
Based in Manchester.
Please help if you can.

Are you used to driving auto's? I thought I had a big problem with mine but eventually discovered - that is how they are. The ECU does control shifts so try resetting it first. Then I would find an auto specialist, I can recommend one in London (Mister Transmission) but I guess that doesn't help.
Worrying to hear about lack of fluid, there is a strict method for draining and refilling these boxes so again best left to a specialist.
Screwd.

Yup used to driving Auto's and you can tell theres been a big change in the last few days with the shifting of the Auto Box.
Think we will have to take it down to an Auto specialist to see what the problem is.

Something else I notice about mine: it does vary on a day by day basis exactly how it is going to behave on changing gear. Couple of times it has really caught me out in kickdown when I thought I had got to know when it would do it. Other times it takes forever to "get going" on 3/4 throttle on the rare occasions I don't just stomp on it.
Seems to make it's own mind up and has good days/bad days. Must be an ECU thing.
