To flame or not to Flame
Hi there have recently finished of the de cat on my STI8 type Uk, and am getting the final remap for it on the weekend. However just wondering before i get this remap done whether i should fit a flam kit inside the exhuast as well, and then get it mapped. Anyone advise, good things about the kits, bad things, legal issues, prices etc I should be thinking about before getting this done. Thanks for help in advance.

Think i will
Almost certain I will get one from what I have been reading they are a good laugh and a must at shows and cruises. Before anyone has a go have got a powerfull(340 bhp)scoob so think a nice flame out the back will just finish the engine and exhuast off, would be rude not to wouldn't it???

The flame kit uses a spark plug to ignite the unburnt fuel leaving the exhaust so I doubt there are any detrimental affects.
In fact maybe it makes up for the fact the car is a decat

Not sure but i think a full de-cat and DV will do the job.

Mine popped little flames naturally...full de cat and vta dump valve, but went and fitted a flamer kit (sad i know) and it's amazing, massive flames now without having to thrash the **** off the engine

flamer kits produce rubbish yellow rising flames, which are very obviously fake.
It is equivalent to having a speaker which makes dump valve noises when you lift off.
They are intended for kids who don't have the engines which produce real flames, so why not get your engine mapped to be rich on over run and produce proper flames with pops and bangs.
Failing that antilag or lanch control. that is far more entertaining than some lame cop out which has no real advantage and makes you look like a fraud.

Cheers for the other but have gone ahead with getting one and have been offered a very good price on one. In my opinion, there is nothign better then hearing the roar of the scooby rally car going off down the road, and then watching the tarmac light up behind them as the back end lights up.

A rally car doesnt have a flamer kit.

True but with a complete de-cat it sounds like one and is the closest thing you will get to on on road version. Still don't know why people are against them on the Scoobies, if they are done right e.g. spark plug inside the exhaust not haning on for dear life then I think they look amazing and can't wait to get mine fitted. Just to annoy everyone else out there think i might put a sticker on the back above the pipe saying BEWARE I spit (NOT!!!!)

Duya remember all this Rich? FPMSL it's what made me get my flame kit, the thought of winding up to$$ers like this. Oh Dear time to sell my scoob because of someone else Does Mummy have to agree first ya bloody sheep
Anyway, Sti@21. With regards to coppers pulling you etc, you would need to be extremely unlucky or just stupid. The kit has a switch which turns the spark on and off. See a copper, pull into a petrol station, just sat in traffic, then just flick the switch and turn it off. Got a tailgater, having a blast down ya fave b-road, fancy showing off, flick the switch and enjoy.

No idea just think the burble of a flat four decatted going off down the street is one of the best car sounds there is, and with a flame following each gear change it can't get much better. People are of course going to have their own opinions, and I can't be bothered to argue, some think the standard car is best others think it isn't, you wouldn't be modding your car if you didn't want it to be unique and your style. As far as hearign a Rally car have only heard them on TV as hadn't had the opportunity to get out and watch a rally so wouldn't know

i have a flamer kit on my scooby.i have never had any troubles with it or the law.
you dont have to be a boy racer or a ned to have one.it can be switched off so its not always spitting flames.
i love it when a tosser comes up behind, all i do is drop a gear, give it some revs and spit a 6ft flame right in front of them, they soon dissapear.lol. they look the biz when up the country roads, who need street lights..
