Default Remap?

My wrx is comepletely standard just need a little more power and second gear sorting, coz its getting on my ****.

Would it possible to get someone to do a remap, just to make it more drivable. I have the standard induction/exaust, would it be advisable to upgrade before?

Dont really want to go to town, just need the bumps ironing out. Anyone know how/who will do this? What are my options?

as long as it is not a MY98 ecutek have the available software to re-map it.

Which area are you in, because there are a number of re-mappers around the country.

Replacement of the exhaust system would give you better value for money (£600 odd quid for the license) because the car would breath better, giving better and smoother power/torque results. H & S, Milltek, etc all make good quality systems, (with sport cats if you have MOT issues).

STI panel filter (available from Japanparts.com or other UK based companies) would also be worth the investment. (£42 last time I checked)

hope this helps

cheers its an 03 wrx. Just wondering how much a switchable ecu would cost from ecutek. Im not looking for major gains just something to liven it up as its feeling a bit flat

i do quite a few m.way miles so no point in having performance ECU enable doing a steady 70, may aswell save fuel. unless the mapped one performs as good/better. I know sometimes they do

Won't make much difference, in fact if driven steadily an ECU Tek'd ECU may be a bit more economic. It's when you come on boost that things start to get interesting

As mentioned, get a better flowing exhaust, preferably full de-cat but you can have a sports cat, STI panel filter, and then make an appointment with one of the ECU Tek mappers out there (Bob Rawle and Pat Herbourn (sp?) are highly recommended on here). It's around £700 for the re-map.

It's also advisable to get at least a Knocklink and boost guage fitted to keep an eye on you engine's health (Air Fuel Ratio (AFR) meter, oil pressure and oil temp guage are also useful but not essential) or SECS display and Knocklink.

You can also kiss goodbye to your warranty. Alternatively get a warranty friendly PPP from Subaru.
