My car has done 20,000 miles and I've taken it to the dealer (warranty)because of knocking on the back end"!! He says the rear DIFF is worn and will replace it under warranty!
1. Is this a common thing?
2. How much would it be if no warranty?

some times they do give a sort of knocking as the diff internals all move but it is very light and you do have to sort of be listening for it. are you sure it's not the dreaded suspension knock?
usually when diffs wear they whine as well either under power or on the overun because the teeth dont make contact where they should.

I've had to replace 2 on my MY98 - apparently it is a common thing on scoobies!

I paid around £200 for mine inc fitting by a friend of a friend. Probably double that if you went to a dealer.

SCOOBYBOY it's deff the DIFF had the suspension knock already and had that sorted and it's only on throttle pressure!!
