Default Turbo Port and polish

The Yanks are seriously into the port/polish /ceramic coating of turbos and appear to be getting significant improvement in flow characteristics and quicker spool up time.
I have a vf22 and want to improve the performance of this unit .
Has anybody modified one along these lines?
I'd appreciate an opinion on the pros and cons.

bin it.. seriously if you belive there figures that they get then.. hmm

Forget ceramic coating a turbo just yet..

All the 500+bhp subarus in the uk do not have ceramic coated turbos..

Have a look here

If my memory serves me right Mark at Lateral Performance can port and polish your turbo with very good results, not such huge difference that Yanks claim IMO!

I would also suggest you exercise caution. I ported out my VF22 exhaust housing after believing what I read on NASIOC several months ago. If you look in the 2.5 Forum now you will see that it is getting some bad reports - particularly re the wastegate diameter change.

Turbo Dynamics have also suggested I've gone too far with the wastegate and that it may not allow me to develop the boost I'd like. If this is the case I may resort to having it welded shut and fitting a Tial

I'm NOT recommending that you don't do this as I don't have enough experience - just recommending caution.

TBH, IMHO, apart from matching the exhaust intake to the up pipe, there is little to gain from "porting/polishing" most turbo's. Gains, if any would be negligible.

I doubt coating will give much either, on something like a VF turbo, but will help with under bonnet temps to some degree.

There is no benifit to porting the wastegate, unless boost creep is an issue, and is more likely to have a detrimental effect.

Personally, I think there is a massive "plecebo" effect with a lot of these mods.

Mark.
