Clutch and flywheel question
when doing a clutch its recomended to skim the flywheel
if your car doesnt judder beforer hand, is this needed
ie: will a new clutch judder on a flywheel thata never judder`d before hand?

my MY96 juddered.. I changed the clutch (for a Borg and Beck) at 124,000miles and didn't skim the flywheel and it hasn't juddered since.. now on 152,500miles..
I'd inspect it for cracks etc.. but otherwise wouldn't worry about it..

cheers JGM
im not actualy going to be doing the job, although i will be lending a hand and makiing sure everythings done 100%
was supposed to be getting a lightend flywheel at the same time but it doesnt look like its going to happen
i just cant see hhow a car that doesnnt judder could develop juddering after a new clutch was put in (unless i missed sumthing)
clutch slipped in wot in 4th gear a few nights back so i figured its about time i got it looked at

I believe the judder is due to deposits on the flywheel.. so skimming removes these deposits.. if it is not juddering then skimming it would just have the same probability of it juddering as if you didn't skim it as it is obviously flat and free of deposits already.
Infact a new flywheel or a skimmed one is likely to be more at risk of judder as the surface will not have been heated and condtioned like it is when it use.
imho
