Question Which intercooler core is better out of these two - pics attached

Sti5/P1 and Wrx MY01 at a guess? One may flow better but retain more heat IYSWIM.

So the Wrx unit flows more but the STi5 is more efficient. The STi3/4 flows even more but is crap at cooling.

No, you need folw and cooling and that's what the fmic's are all about.

...but they then introduce lag!

I believe they will fit Kev.. but the STi7/8 won't.

You need to trim the throttle body and the intercooler to get it to fit.

Wink

Before I fitted my FMIC I fitted a version 5/6 MY00 TMIC to MY96 shown below -

You will need to remove about ~8mm from outlet of TMIC and about ~10mm from throttle body to avoid clearance issues with bulkhead and gearbox mount. You may also have to remove some material from gearbox mount to prevent pipework on underside of TMIC to prevent rubbing/knocking when engine moves on mounts. I also fabricated my own brackets

Cheers

also decided that the STi5 one's an easier fit as the hoses line up on the STi5 and not on the UK300, the turbo must be in a different place on the bugeye in relationship to the throttle body

It is an extremely tight fit with the Outlet of TMIC and Throttle body unmodified. My unmodified TMIC shown in position below (Ignore DV Comments)

Once the lips are removed a 'cut down' samco/silicon hose is required as the boost will deffo blow the IC off throttle body

Cheers

Dyney, your IC doesn't look very efficient to me, looks like you may have some kind of blockage

Interesting heat shielding approach. What's the shield under the scoop for? Can't quite see what you are trying to acheive? Good project

i haven't got the under bonnet scoop for the IC, so i made it up the part under the bonnet lines up with the 2 parts either side of the IC forming the scoop. It's not meant as a heat shield, but might double up as one

Got to say though, it's a massive improvement, better throttle response and a load more mid-high end power/torque
