Default What do i do.....?

Any help would be great

I have just fitted a De-Cat system to MY01
Downpipe short centre and backbox from a very reputable dealer so this post NOT AT ALL IS POINTING THE FINGER.
I am to understand from this mod i should gain around 20-25 bhp improvement but i have had no increse in power at all.The CEL light has not come on which i thought would to indicate the turbo coming in a little sooner but has not.

Which direction do i go in?

Do i need a re-map?

Can i just reset my ECU?

CEL light should not come on, you can re-set or wait for the ECU to "adjust" itself. How do you mean " no increase in power" you should hear and feel the difference instantly, then after a full tank (I think) all hell breaks loose, did with my MY99

the cel will probably come on after a long motor way trip, or steady speed after the cars had a hammering ( did on mine )

you need a psi3 secs unit to reset the ecu OR take it to a garage with the tools, some change £30

sometime's I can't see how some drivers notice the difference between things such as air filters etc, when I pushed my bugeye to 270 ish bhp the car just feels lighter, I found the handeling mods far more rewarding... still im still looking at getting another 50 bhp

I de-catted my MY02 bugeye (Haywood and Scott) and didn't notice any difference in Power. The noise was different

Bugeye Scoobies can loose that difference in BHP on a warm day, particularly as the bugeye's were mapped to reduce the "kick" to make them more saleable...

I decatted mine in readiness for an EcuTeK re-map and then you DO start to notice the diffrence

The ECU will detect (in the end) the missing cats and throw up a CEL code P0420 witha solid red CEL light. There are various ways around this.... ignore it, get a CEL fix like I did originally, reset the ECU from a SECS or a dealer or get the ECU mapped to take account of the de-cat which will "map out" the P0420 code

Personally I'd think about an EcuTek re-map to take advantage of the de-cat, your TD04 can spool up pretty early and run about 260 BHP

Thanks Mid....

How long did it take your scoob to detect the de-cats?
I thought it would of been an instant thing with the ecu but nps....
Just not got enough cah at the mo for a re-map ):

But the car sounds awsome....lol

Trickie

It took quite a while for the Bugeye ECU to realise I had de-catted the scooby

I potter around quite a lot but it threw up P0420 (cat below efficiency ) after a blast on the A69. Luckily the SECS could tell me and I wasn't bothered.

The really annoying thing was that at the time I fitted a Scoobysport CEL Fix (The old Pete Croney Scoobysport) which should have stopped this happening. I phoned Scoobysport who admitted that the CEL fix would reduce CEL's but not eliminate them

Begs the question why they sold them ??

I'd enjoy the great sound of the de-cat , post on scoobynet for a second hand CEL fix and see if anyone has a cheap "example map" for a bugeye de-cat..

Hang on.......................

I bought a "TeK 2" map for my Bugeye for £500 quid plus VAT and on top of that the de-cat tweak cost about £150 !!!!

I then went for the "TeK 3" map which cost £700 odd quid !! Total cost for the re-maps near £1.2k

Somewhere there should be a licence for the De-cat "TeK 2" which cost me 600 quid !!!!.....

If you can shake a few trees at EcuTek you can have the £600 licence fee I originaly paid for

Go on..........................I dare you !!!

Shaun

Sorry mate but i don't understand....
Licence fee for what i thought you just took your scoob in for a re-map..
So there not the same but individual for each scoob to gain max performance..

The re-map seems costly when done is it a permanent chance to your ecu will ever revert back to standard.

Thanks again Mid....

Trickie.. It's easy

I bought an off the shelf TeK2 total £600 odd quid for my decat.

I them modded the car again and went for a Tek3. The original mapper AFAIK "locked" the ECU so I had to pay the £700 odd quid again. OK

I'm not complaining at the result (325 BHP ) It's just that I have legal title over a product (the £600 TeK2 ) which I can't see, touch or sell !!

Did you get the TEK 2 and the TEK 3 from the same person?

Phill

I was under the assumption that I payed John Banks for the TEK 2 and if I wanted the TEK 3 as long as I used him, i wouldn't have to pay ECUTEK again?

All my ECUs had the license left open, so the only costs to another mapper is their time and equipment/overheads.

There was a phase of Bugeye ECUs that locked the ECU to the tuner that originally mapped them. I don't think that is the case now.

I got the example map (Tek2) and the bespoke map (TeK3) from different people.....

I would have expected John to have left the licence open

John commands great respect on SN (as does Bob Rawle who looks after my scooby and many of my friends )

Shaun, got to agree mate. John Banks and Bob are top blokes, and I save loads of money on petrol since my TEK 2.5 Never met Bob, know loads of people that have used him.

I'd stick with the 2 litre and find a nice FETD05 or 18G conversion ( Look on deadbolt.com ) for Bob Rawle to map. along with better IC, pump, reg and injectors.

Get Harvey to port the headers as well

The 2.5 seems a whole new ball game but there are a few threads in Projects to look at !!

I fancied the extra torque from the 2.5 engine, running less boost so not to **** the gearbox.

That link doesn't work??

Was going to get my spare TD05 moded and try that. How much are bigger injectors?

Chrissy

Thanks for the post.....

I have been modding my MY02 Scooby over the last couple of years by following in the footsteps of other Bugeye owners and their mappers ...so most of my knowlege is definately second hand but I have ended up with a daily driver bugeye circa 300 plus BHP

I would have no doubt that Pat could get 325 - 330 BHP out of the set up that you have The big problem is the jump to 400

I'm not at the head of the pack at the moment..... I'm chasing Ninnybobs from TTS at the moment

Hopefully Ninnybobs might post his mods, I have been in his bugeye and I WANT one just like it

Possibly the best "sorted" daily driver bugeye around my parts

Trickie, there are lots of old threads on reaching 300 with a bug.

Your main decision is whether to accept 270-280 and save a wedge of cash and hassle from not changing the turbo, in which case a full exhaust with all 3 cats removed (including uppipe), a good panel filter, resonator removal and an Ecutek remap should do it for you.

I'm not commercial now, speak to one of the mappers about getting you sorted out.
