Thumbs down they say they come in three's!!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On my 94 STI i had a missfire and found one plug had melted also noticed i had a bad oil leak so i looked under it and the oil filter had been hit on a speed hump and it had distored, I checked the oil to find it almost empty no oil light came on. I replace it and filled it with oil and thought to myself ok she's sorted went for a drive run lovely later that day went out again and pulled off the lights and looked in horror in my rear veiw and there was a massive cloud of blue smoke :O

its was fine when driving but everytime i stop on idle for a bit it really kicks out smoke?

i took the pipes off the turbo and couldn't see much wrong the pipes look clear of any oil and the i/c, it could still be on the exhaust side tho?

has anyone had this problem on a subaru or any other car and found it to be the turbo i dont want to go spend out for a turbo just to find it still does it.

Blue smoke on idle after a run means worn turbo doesn't it?

Well im not sure i called the main dealer and they said "turbo turbo turbo" so i called Turbo Tecnics and they said if it was going to be the turbo then u would have oil in the pipes and its very rare to have it leaking on the exhaust side.

any ideas on how i can test the turbo or somehow bypass it what if i take it off andthen run the car....lol loud but will prove the point?

can i block off the oil feed to the turbo if i do or does it feed something else as well?

Every turbo that i have seen blown has gone on the exh side. every one!

R.

Edit to say that i wouldnt question TT's answer usually as they are one of the biggest turbo people i know. just on my own experience of roughly 10 blown turbo's.

Just to add, do not bypass the turbo, it will **** it for sure then!

Take the downpipe off, look in the housing. oily = turbo.

Question

i just called Turboative that told me take it off and we will check it for £20.

£400 for full recon exchange?

ive used them a couple of times before and havn't experienced any problems so i think im going to whip it off....do u think i could start the car with the turbo off but with the A/F meter and things connected and see if she smokes then, I would need to do something about the oil pipes can i cap them totaly?

i have a plan for ya.

Take out all of the spark plugs, check each one is a sandy colour (or orange if optimax/booster user) this will show you that the engine is running correctly with no oil contamination. Then remove the downpipe as i said and see how much oil is in the ext outlet.
Do not run the car with the turbo off...reasons..

1. the exh gas will come out of the up pipe into the engine bay.
2. you cannot block the oil pipes.
3. you will have to join the water pipes.
4. by the time you have messed about trying to get the AFM to reach the throttle body to start it you will be in a right mess..
5.cant think of any more

But you can see what i am saying
