since people are fitting the sti 8 intercoolers on to thier classic shape imprezas
has anyone tried to fit an aftermarket sti7/8 intercooler to the classic or os that too much of a tight squeeze.
a site in the USA has a sale on TXS intercoolers $799 and im tempted to buy one
would the aftermarket one be more of a tight squeeze and thus more like to hit the back of the bulk head

Steve, I had something like this on my Sti v3 for a while.
The huge size also carried 2 x the weight of aluminium. If this large TMIC get hot(heat sink from standing in still or slow traffic, it will take ages to cool down to the 'chill' you are expecting. On a long fast road it will chill, but still take longer than a stock TMIC. I sold mine and went to stock again, and went faster on the track using water spray.
Just a thought.

As 911 pointed out, just need to add a nice NOS spray bar to get the most out of it![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

ive got a water spray kit which cools the intercooler down when it detects a rise in ambient temp and duty cycles

STI TMIC is better for your needs as it may gets hot on traffic faster but due to design with thin core cools down easily compared with any aftermarket huge and thick TM. Tube and fin cores also cool down faster than Bar & Plate even if they advertised as better core design!
I ordered a Spearco B&P TMIC for my WRX04 but as I don't want to change my hood scoop for an STI one I am going to sell it and buy probably a second hand STI TMIC!
It depends where you drive your car and your driving style!
Water spray doesn't add much in cooling an STI TMIC with STI hood scoop, we did some tests and the best result was 2C degrees down, of course with smaller scoops the results will be completely differents!

Works very well

Also tapped it into the GEMS using the inlet temperature sensor and the fans come on at a certain temp etc.
NOS Spray Bars are also good
